In Day 3, you will explore aligning Assessments with Objectives.
Assessments should provide us, the instructors, and the students with evidence of how well the students have learned what we intend them to learn. What we want students to learn and be able to do should guide the choice and design of the assessment. Attachment is below. Why should assessments, learning objectives, andinstructional strategies be aligned? Assessments should reveal how well students have learned what we want them to learn while instruction ensures that they learn it. For this to occur, assessments, learning objectives, and instructional strategies need to be closely aligned so
that they reinforce one another. Attachment is below.

To do list:
1.     There are two required reading at Day 3:
AlignAssessments with Objectives;
why should assessments, learning objectives, and instructional strategies be aligned?
2.      Write your opinion on those questions in 75-150words. Why should assessments, learning objectives, and instructional strategies be aligned? What kinds of activities can we use to
assess different types of learning objectives?

Deadline for this assignment is 02/07/2016, 12:00 a.m.
(Astana time, please check time difference with your local time)

Learningobjectives show what students will be able to do at the end of the lesson,
course, academic year. To achieve learning objects we choose the  appropriate instructional strategies. Theymust improve and make the process of learning more active and effective. We
should provide students with positive emotions, use the activities doing which
students demonstrate their knowledge, skills, progress, success. To define if
learning objectives were achieved we use different types of assessment which
align with the learning objectives and instructional strategies!

At my lessonsI ask my students questions or offer them  to make up  a cluster to find outwhat they know from the lesson or offer to fill in the blank. To check up their
understanding sometimes I offer them to draw a picture or fill in the table,  match parts, sometimes they do tests, make updialogues, using learned phrases, write recipes,  a menu, they write essay.

Assessment, learning outcomes and instructional strategies are the processes of educational
system. They should be aligned and integrate into each other as equal elements
which can produce the end result and solve instructional tasks successfully.
Learning is a developmental, interactive, socially-constructed, reflective process which specific educational strategies
(it has set of rules-law about education) and system of assessment.
Then this brings up the question: How should the educator organize the educational process with certain strategy and fair assessment?
The assessment should:
integrate the educator fully into assessment process;·
be applied and adopted to meet the teaching and learning objectives of different classes and students;·
suggest students constructive feedback;·
monitor, evaluate, modify procedures to optimize teaching and learning.

The teacher can make different activities for assessment of learning objectives (multi-staged tests, topics of interest to the students, materials with real-world contexts and situations, real problems discussing for creative use of English (not simple repetition), reflections with self-evaluation and self-correction)

Remember the day 2, exactly the topic of yesterday'sessay, or more exactly the category of Bloom's Taxonomy, which helps to point
out the learning purpose on the lesson and the purpose, provides the results
for assessment. Still yesterday we found out that the objectives and assessment
is a single unit system: purpose is targeted for a results, the result is the
product of the activity for its achievement. This tells about their direct
dependence. We should be careful with learning goals, because in the case of
the wrong goal, students can not define what results will you measure. When I ‘veread about the activities of Blooms  categories in my mind i began to try on  it on my lessons and now  I’m able to name  how to measure student learning resultsRemembering/understanding – to match,to give the title, to find it from the..Interpret/infer – to give the example, to summarize the events, concepts, to classifyinto the categories, paraphraseApply/execute – tell the solutions for the situation, what is the appropriate way tosolve the problemAnalyze –select what is irrelevant or relevant concepts or elements, what elements work
togetherEvaluate –use the test, to critique the idea, give the positive and negative
items/statementsCreate - designor generate something new

Day 3 ASSIGNMENT
Assessments, learning objectives and instructional strategiesshould be aligned if we want our students to succeed and if we want to feel satisfaction
from our work. These three basic elements of the teaching process are closely
interconnected and if they are misaligned it can lead to lots of mistakes and
errors. We as teachers have to use certain instructional strategies according
to the learning objectives we set and we are to use appropriate types of
assessment.

The categorization of  the learning objectives taken from the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy offers certain assessments for each thinking level. For example to assess the learningobjective of the first thinking level we can use such activities as fill-in-the
blank tasks or multiple choice quizzes. I use these activities quite often with
the students of the elementary level.

Critical course components work together to ensure that students achieve the desired learning outcomes. When aligned, each of these course components is directly tied to and supports the learning objectives. objectives are detailed statements of what the learners will be able to achieve or be able to demonstrate as a result of completing a course; they are statements of learner behavior. They describe the result of the learning process rather than what or how the learner will be taught.
Durimg the lessons we  do different tactivitie for assessment of learning objectives. My students like to make presentations , sometimes we do problem tasks .

In my opinion, assessments, learning objectives and instructional strategies should be aligned because they are parts of one system, they work together and depend on each other. We want our students to learn the material (learning objectives); assessments help us to understand whether our students have achieved these learning objectives; instructional strategies help us to choose the wright activities to reinforce our learning objectives and prepare our students for assessments.
The learning objectives state a performance goal. We can use a lot of activities to assess the learning objectives: group and individual exercises, in-class and take-home tests, describing situations, discussions and others. If our students know what they should be able to do, they can assess their own progress and concentrate on their weaker skills.

Assessment, learning objecties and instructional strategies need to be closely aligned. They reinforce one another. If these components are misaligned,it can undermine both student motiation and learning. Planning the lesson we should ask the following questions:What do I want students to know, what kind of task will reveal, what kind of activities will use
. We can use different activities to assess different types of learning objecties: objective test items(full-in-the blank, matching, multiiple-choice questions), problem set, class discussion, perfomances, research  projects, debates, diaries, essays, musical composition, business plans, set designs,  website designs, performances, etc.

Assessments, learning objectives and instructional strategies  make the  learning process  more effective. If they are misaligned,  students lose motivation and learning. So, we have to use all these three aspects together to achieve progress.
There are different kinds of activities to assess different types of learning objectives. They are: recognize ( fill-in-the blank, multiple-choice questions), interpret (discussions, exams), apply (performances, prototyping), analyze ( critiques, debates), evalute (dairies, problem sets), create (projects, essays, website designs)

If you and your students are going to reach the goal, assessments, learning objectives and instructional strategies are better to be aligned. In this case they reinforce one another.
The best way to do it is to decide what students should know (learning objectives), then to decide what activities you need choose to solve the task (instruction activities) and what kinds of task will show you if the students achieved the identified learning objectives (assessments).
As I see Revised Bloom's Taxonomy is a very useful thing to choose the right activity to assess different types of learning objectives.

It is important that the assessments should be aligned with the course objectives. If assessments are not aligned to objectives and
instructional strategies it can actually undermine both student motivation and learning. For instance, if students spend a great deal of time learning and developing analytical skills and then are only given multiple choice tests, that only test memorization, they could easily become frustrated. Carefully written objectives that identify not only what is to be learned, but to the degree it should be learned, will lead to the development of assessments that truly are aligned to overall goals of the course and will provide evidence that the objectives are being met.

Alignment is the connection between learningobjectives, instructional strategies and assessments. Learning objectives are
the foundation for the concept of alignment and set the stage for assessments. Connecting
learning objectives and assessments will help to ensure the alignment and keep
students moving in the right direction. Teachers need to evaluate objectives
and identify new assessment tools they can use to measure learning objectives. It
is very necessary to select proper assessments that align with the objectives
to estimate student learning. Learning improves when objectives, instructional
strategies and assessment are aligned. A good teaching system aligns method and assessment tothe learning. The assessments are supposed to evaluate whether or not students
have achieved. Practical and reflective tasks, essay questions and many other
activities can be offered to assess learning objectives. For example, to
construct a model to demonstrate how it will work, teachers can offer
role-playing, presentation or individual projects.

The relationship between assessment, learning objectives andinstructional strategies should be aligned to understand how students will learn
effectively. First of all every teacher should put some questions as “What do I
want to students know?”, “What activities will I use?”, “How will I check
student’s understanding?” There are different strategies toallow checking students’ understanding, such as “Hot sitting”, “Thumbs up thumbs
down”, “Jigsaw”, ask “Follow-ups”, “Call onstudents randomly”, “Ask for a summary” and so on.  I often use these strategies on my lessons. Andmy students really like them.
